Veterans Training Program Begins

Tech organizers Jimmy Prude and Demond Drummer hosted a joint orientation to Smart Communities on June 2 with veterans from the Auburn Gresham and Englewood communities.

Prude, the tech organizer for Auburn Gresham, said he is “carving out a specific educational track for them,” starting with Everyday Digital and Civic 2.0 and then bringing in trainers for Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint – “all of this with a veterans perspective.”

The 10-week program started with a group of 18 but may grow after another orientation on the 29th with a broader set of military men and women. Trainings will alternate between two brand-new technology facilities at the Auburn Gresham Veterans Affairs Center and at St. Leo's Veterans housing campus.
